Grammers

Not too much to talk about today. I've begun to work on the grammar issues mentioned on the previous post on this page. And if you haven't voted on the poll yet, please go ahead and do so. Alongside the grammar fixes, I'm also adding some more variants for being female. Previously the dialogues are quite gender ambiguous. I'm also finalizing the bust for Ryugami. Specifically, I added slightly more detail to his vest/jacket, but I won't post any art this time since I feel like I've been posting WAY too much incomplete artworks recently. But I'll probably post one when it's shaded and completed.

And yes, I know the title is incorrectly spelled. It was intentional.

Patreon?

Sorry for the lack of updates once again. I've been busy with real life stuffs and hadn't have much motivation to work on the game. Especially when as I mentioned in one of my earliest post that art assets is the single most time consuming thing to be done in a video game, and the fact that I'm not satisfied with Player's bust and wanted to add some more details to it. Right now it just looks extremely generic. Also, some somewhat important wall of text incoming.


Now what's up with the big orange words that reads "Patreon" with a question mark at the end? Well, that's me asking whether you guys would want me to implement Patreon right now. I know, I know, I said that I will only open up a Patreon account only when the game hits post v0.1.0. One of the main reasons I'm trying to hold off till then is due to the fact that there isn't much content to warrant Patreon implementation. The second reason has a slightly more in-depth reasoning. There isn't much gameplay to show HOW the gameplay will actually be as the game have a larger amount of content. What this means is that assuming if I did have a Patreon right now, and people actually pledged because they're interested in the project because of the intro, and when the final product came out, it's not what they expected it to be, and they'll feel cheated.

That's a lot of comma in that sentence. It looks like I failed as a writer. But nevertheless, things like that happen all the time. It's something people like to call "false advertisement." Aliens: Colonial Marines comes to mind when I think about false advertisements. Now I'm not trying to sound smart or political, I'm just saying that stuff like these happens all the time, and I do not want to be one of those people who make their PR look really good and the final product comes out as crap. I got derailed there, but one upside of having a Patreon now is that if I am being paid, I will be more motivated to work on this game.

So here's the deal, I'm setting up a poll for you guys to vote on whether or not I should set up Patreon at this pre v0.1.0 state. Now I'm expecting some error margin from this, so I included more options other than a simple yes and no. So go vote, and please try to be truthful. The poll will last for about a week or two. And even if the majority wanted me to implement Patreon right now, I wouldn't do it right away.

Now with all that Patreon stuff out of the way, what is stopping me from releasing the next pre-build?
I won't be a smartass and go into details on this so I'll just make a quick list.

That's pretty much the only thing I need done to release pre-build 4. And I know this post is extremely haphazard and all over the place. That's mostly because I'm writing this around 4 in the morning. So I'm going to crash on my bed now.

Another bust down

Well, mostly. It has been long overdue though, so I figured I may as well get Ryugami's bust done with. The incomplete naked bust for Ryugami has actually been in the debug room since pre-build 1. I'm still toying around with the color combinations and still need to give it some simple shading. Busts aren't like CGs. They don't need to be extra detailed and require extreme shadings. Though some people may not agree on this. But from what I see with every game that has busts, they don't seem to have more than 2 or 3 shades for each hue. And yes, I know VNs has highly detailed shading. Captivity isn't a VN. I'm talking about non VN games like Disgaea and such.

The design of the clothing is somewhat similar to the Tales of games. It looks somewhat modern and stylish. That's the fashion I'm going for. If you're looking for high fantasy clothing designs, then sorry, there's not going to be much here. Although I think the sketch of Mage Trainer bust I posted some time ago is pretty much high fantasy design (and Kerry's too, that's pretty much just a leather dress).  But that may or may not change during the linearting phase.

ETA for next pre-build release? I dunno. I can hold off the sprites for the release after the next. So... whenever I finished all the busts and CG 2 I guess.

Why RPG Maker MV?

Alright, I'll admit. I don't have much done for the past few days. Designing clothing for characters is certainly not easy. I had to draw, erase, draw and then erase and rinse and repeat for a couple more times before I'm kinda satisfied with it. As a result, I feel rather burned out. Note: I have no intention to abandon this project. Work is just coming slowly. So since I haven't made a new post for a few days, I might as well make one now and talk about why I'm using MV instead of VX or VX Ace. This might not interest the average person at all, but if you're an aspiring creator that's still bouncing back and forth between choosing VX/Ace or MV, this post might interest you. Also, I'll be ranting in italics like this one.


In hentai games like these, it all basically comes down to resolution size. MV games by default is in 816 x 624 while VX Ace is in 544×416. In most hentai games that portrays sex visually (A.K.A CGs. I'm just trying to sound smarter than I actually am.) like these, having a high resolution is highly recommended if not needed. I'm not talking about retro, pixel or purposefully pixelated artworks. Those have their own place and not the point I'm trying to get across. Now if you've played Despair Labyrinth before, you'd realize that it has some rather pixelated CGs. Though that might be because of the rendering, I'm not sure. While compared to Captivity, the CGs are crisp and clean looking. But if you play in a maximized window or fullscreen it's still going to look somewhat pixelated. And while I could very well bump the resolution up to 720p or even 1080p if I wanted to (this is something you can do easily with MV), doing so brings a whole slew of its own problem. Mostly regarding to map size, tiles and problems within the creator itself. And I can't be assed to circumvent the problems that shouldn't have been there to begin with.

The second thing would probably the increase count of more items, weapons, and variables and stuff. IIRC, everything that has a count of 999 in the previous RPG Makers have been increased up to 2000. That's twice as much. While I'm probably never going to use all of it, it does provide more leeway. But why did they impose an arbitrary limit of 2000 instead of just making it 9999 regardless of whether or not people will actually use them all in this day and age is beyond me.

Finally, the switch from Ruby/RGSS3 to JavaScript. Now I'm personally not a programmer so this doesn't affect me much. But if you're well versed in the arcane arts of computer magic, this is something you might want to look out for.

There's also a couple more changes to MV, but that's basically the gist of it. Now then, time to frustrate myself more with clothing designs.

Update on CGs

I've begun to work on the remaining lineart of CG 2's variations. Right now there's the lineart of 2 variations including the first/main one in build 3. Someone tell me the terminologies. I have no idea what people call these. There's like 7 variations (including the first) I think. The first/main one is the one where Player glares at the POV/Ryu. The 2nd one currently in build 3 is the one where Ryu whips out his cock, although that is meant to be variation 4. The supposed to be 2nd one is where Ryu grab them titties and the 3rd is where he plays with the nipples. And once again, the 4th is the one where Ryu whips out his cock. The 5th will be the tit fuck, the 6th is the cumming part and the 7th and final one is the afterglow or post-cumming part.

See? That got confusing real quick. Someone tell me the terminologies or we'll be stuck in this confusion forever. (Or at least I will.) In the meantime, here's the numbered list.

1. Player stare/idle
2. Boob grab
3. Nipple tease
4. Whips out cock
5. Tit fuck/Paizuri
6. Cumming
7. Post-cumming

In comparison, CGs 1 has 4 variation including the first. And I swear to god that I did not intend for CGs 2 to have this many variations. When I started writing the H-scene this and that happened and I had to make it flow well and so we're ending up with 7 variations. This is what happens when you don't plan ahead of time. All I hope is with this many CGs in just the intro, people wouldn't expect as much CGs in future scenes. Although that's kinda counter-intuitive, since that's what intros are supposed to do. To set up expectations for the audience. But eh, I dunno. I think I'm setting myself up to fail right now.

Now in regards to CGs in v0.1/v0.1.0, in addition to the existing 2 sets of CGs, there's going to be a Player masturbation/solo CGs scene and possibly a set of handjob CGs scene. But I can't be assed to update the to-do list because I'm a lazy asshole.

Some character teaser

Can't think of anything punny to write
Here's a little teaser of a character that's going to appear somewhat early in game. Once again, I don't want to spoil anything, but she is probably one of the funnest character I've ever written/created. But since it's not much of a tease if I don't reveal anything, I will say this. "Despite her somewhat innocent and dull look, she is extremely foul-mouthed." Teasing aside, she actually has a hat but halfway drawing the hat I realized I can't draw hats so I gave up. She will have a hat when I'm actually drawing her bust though, this is just sort of a practice for me. Oh, and, she's actually not named yet.


Also, I should REALLY finish up the busts and release the next pre-build. I'm not sure how many of you are waiting for the next build to play, but I certainly really want to release it as soon as possible.

Planned erotic content

A few days ago I said I was resuming work. I lied. Kinda. Chinese New Year is taking up more of my time than I initially thought. But since I haven't been able to get anything done for the past few days like I promised, I decided to take some time to collect my thoughts and write down what kind of erotic content I have planned. Things I will include in future updates and what will never make it into the game.

So first of all, rape. Content regarding rape or non-consensual sex will obviously be in the game. If you've played what little there is of the game right now, you're literally raped within the first 10 minutes of the game. Some other content I have planned are masturbation, multiple partners/orgies, double & triple penetration, femdom, semi-shota, yuri, yaoi, bestiality, monsters, bdsm and exhibitionism just to name a few. If any of these are not your thing, fear not! You can choose what kind of scenes you want and do not want to play (certain content are still forced like rape) by choosing dialogue choices when you can and limiting your inhibition to a certain level. For example, if you do not want to be given the choice to get fucked by a wolf, don't get your inhibition level to below 30.

Things that will never be in the game will be loli, futa(?), furry, scat and guro/gore. These are the things I have planned NOT to include in the game for various reasons. Loli, scat and guro content will never be in the game is simply because I do not find them at all arousing, but actually rather disturbing. Futa and furry is just because of lore reasons. There are humans, dwarfs, elves and monsters in the lore and universe of DragonSong. But there are no anthropomorphic animals. Futa is rather uncertain depending on whether or not I'm willing to bullshit a temporary dick growing potion or something into the game.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Sorry for the lack of progress reports for the past few days. I've essentially been busy with visiting relatives and doing Chinese New Year-ish things. Progress will resume starting tomorrow, so keep an eye out!

Now, you might be asking, "why the fuck are you celebrating Chinese New Year?" Well, I didn't mention this before because I don't think it was necessary, but since I'm on the subject anyway, I'll be talking about myself for a little. I was born in Malaysia, on 1996. Ethnically I'm Chinese. So that's why I'm celebrating Chinese New Year. This is one of those celebrations/holidays that lasts for 2 weeks and people just give you money for free in red packets or envelopes (紅包). Whoever was it that says there are no free lunches? So all in all, it's a great time for people who do celebrate Chinese New Year. And I know it's customary for artists to draw something up for festivals like this, but I don't have anything this year. Maybe I'll start drawing something for the coming festivals. But on that note, whether you celebrate it or not, I wish everyone to have a prosperous year, good health and may your wishes be fulfilled!

I've just change the blog template. It's a third party template, meaning it's not made by Google. Tell me how it looks and works. I'm sure it's bound to have problems. But if anyone found a better template, please let me know. I make games, damn it! Not freaking websites or blogs!

EDIT: Not 10 minutes in and I already found a couple problems. There's no reply button, comments are in the wrong order and the search bar isn't exactly functional. I'm getting a headache from this. I'm going to bed for now.

One bust (mostly) completed. Yay?

Well, I finally (roughly) completed the player's bust. To be honest, I feel rather burned out from working on nothing but this one bust for the past few days. I'm going to move on to working something else for now. Maybe either Nos, Lucky or Ryu's busts or CG 2. And since it's still in flat color, I can change them out for other colors pretty easily. Tell me what you think about the color choices.

Also, I know it's odd that I'm referring to the characters by their in game name, but please bear with me as it is deliberate. After the intro, everyone will be using their game names instead of their real ones. Why? Uh... I don't know. I may or may not explain it in the game depending on whether or not I can bullshit it to sound logical.
